Where are you now? It's an exercise I thought of and decided to share with you. I work behind this cash register so I'd write a piece based on working in retail, the customers, the employees. What has happened that would possibly make a good story? Who have I met that I can turn into a character?
I will post my response to this exercise and hope you will too.
Basically the exercise is to write a short story or piece of a short story based on where you are in the moment, meaning anywhere from last week to today.
Here's a first sentence I might use
I smiled when the woman approached me with a shopping basket containing a diaper genie, diaper genie refills and boxes of diapers and a baby boy. There were so many questions I had to ask her.

Everyone try this, write a story based on the three snow days we've had. Try to imagine what's happening outside of you while writing scenes based on what you're doing or not doing because of the weather.
Happy writing I pray this weather doesn't continue for everyone who needs to be out working and earning a living.

Base a story or scene on a uniform, any kind of uniform, work or school or military or even a costume.

What is going on in your city or neighborhood. For instance, if I were in New Orleans I'd be going to parades and on Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, I'd stand on St. Charles Street and shout "Throw me something" to Zulu and Rex and the truck parade.
